This book just came in the mail. Gorgeous patterns to use up all those scraps

Sunday, April 9, 2017

April is multi color in Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017.  I am trying to make 3 each month of the color so when I get to October I will have 30 11 inch blocks - enough for a nice size quilt.  Center picture is the design wall of all the Bear Paw blocks I have completed.  I used the pattern from
www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/bears-paw-quilt-block.html .  The pattern is given in 3 sizes.

So Scrappy Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017 March is red month.  I am planning to make the bear paw  quilt out of various colors of batiks.  In these challenges I refuse to buy any material since the spirit of the challenge is use your scraps.  Each block is 11 inches.

and onto the Grandmother's flower Garden quilt that I continue (forever) to work on.  Great project to bring to waiting rooms and during my lunch to curb over eating (well, that's not working).  Each hexie is one inch.

February Finishes
This is a Quilts for Kids done by friend Jean T

My Qluilts for Kids.  Handsome legs belong to my son who gallantly agreed to hold up the quilts.

Bellini Butterflies for my friend and cancer survivor who is expecting a grandchild soon.  Grandmothers should have quilts at home to cuddle with the new one.

Back of Bellini Butterflies.  I had to piece the back so I put some renegade butterflies on the back.  Machine quilted this with my new Singer Quantum 9960.  I am new to machine quilting. Wow! Makes completing quilts fast.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017 February color is teal.  These are batiks that have teal in them.  I make it a point to use only my stash for this So Scrappy challenge rather than buy any fabric.
Love snow days. Finished all the Sunbonnet Sue blocks machine appliqued (had to play with my new Singer Quantum 9960) onto very scrappy log cabin blocks.   Need to decide on the border. Right now each "Sue" block is 16 inches so the quilt is now 48 x 64.
The purple is from the So Scrappy Rainbow Scrap Challenge January purple month.  I got this idea from a Craftsy pattern and one I saw on the Quilting Bee Facebook page.

Rainbow Challenge 2017 Challenge progress

Participating in the Rainbow challenge 2017 this year.  I chose the Bear's Paw block in batiks.  January was purple so I used my light and dark purple.

In the spirit of the Rainbow Challenge at So Scrappy blog, I emptied out my bucket of scraps.  I had leftover 1930s vintage reproduction fabric and wanted to use my Accuquilt cutter that I've never used  before.  I made 12 Sunbonnet Sues and saw a Crafty pattern using Log Cabin in scrappy as the backdrop for the Sunbonnet Sues.  I have 11 Log Cabin blocks done and 4 Sues appliqued.  Using my new Singer 9960 sewing machine to applique around the figures.
